Nina Di Giovanni is an innovative, energetic, and dedicated artist with more than 20 years experience in the world of mosaic.Born of an Italian father and Mexican mother she grew up in a richly artistic environment honouring the traditions and artistic heritage of both her parents. She has studied extensively, shown internationally in both painting and mosaics and is a unique artist in her fusionistic approach to contemporary and traditional art, bridging not only continents but historical eras. Having studied in Ravenna Italy, Barcelona Spain, and Oaxaca Mexico, she brings a fresh and unique approach to contemporary work with a solid foundation in design and application, and a technical expertise to tackle major installations and unique applications.
As well as completing major projects and installations in Vancouver BC ( West Restaurant and the Vancouver Public Library) and the US , she has designed a contemporary line of mosaic tiles for various high end specialty stores in New York, Miami, LA and San Diego. Her portfolio includes shows in galleries throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico in sculptural mosaic art and architectural installations in exclusive homes working closely with interior designers and architects. She was also awarded best 2 - D artist in "Beneath the Surface" ( 2005) Society of American Mosaic Artists ( SAMA).
With years of teaching experience, a solid background in visual arts, and hands on
project development and design skills, she is an excellent teacher, facilitator, and collaborator in
workshops and school settings. Her students enjoy a solid learning experience as well as a shared respect for the creative process and enthusiasm for individual expression. In Mexico, she has taught at the Taller Rufino Tamayo in Oaxaca and has run workshops at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato.
With a passion for Precolumbian mosaics and Mexican art and culture, she has relocated to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where Precolumbian mosaics in turquoise and semi-precious stones were produced by the best artists in Mesoamerica. She is also dedicated to a renaissance of this almost lost art form.
We welcome commissions for mosaic projects of all sizes and also offer ongoing classes in various mosaic styles and applications.
