Nina Di Giovanni is an innovative and dedicated artist with more than 20 years experience in the world of mosaic. Having studied in Ravenna Italy, Barcelona Spain, and Oaxaca Mexico, she brings a fresh and unique approach to contemporary work with a solid foundation in design and application, and a technical expertise to tackle major installations and unique applications.
As well as completing major projects and installations in Vancouver BC and the US , she has designed a contemporary line of mosaic tiles for various high end specialty stores in New York, Miami, LA and San Diego. Her portfolio includes shows in galleries throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico in sculptural mosaic art and architectural installations in exclusive homes working closely with interior designers and architects.
With years of teaching experience, a solid background in visual arts, and hands on
project development and design skills, she is an excellent teacher, facilitator, and collaborator in
workshops and school settings. Her students enjoy a solid learning experience as well as a shared respect for the creative process and enthusiasm for individual expression.
With a passion for precolumbian mosaics and Mexican art and culture, she has now opened a center for mosaic in Oaxaca Mexico where precolumbian mosaics in turquoise and semi-precious stones were produced by the best artists in Mesoamerica. She is also dedicated to a renaissance of this almost lost art form unique to the region .
The center and "taller" or studio is also a gallery in a beautiful setting in the historic district of Jalatlaco in Oaxaca, next to the centro historico in a spacious and aesthetic setting which was once part of a hacienda and curtiduria (leather factory) and offers a diversity of courses by highly qualified professional artists and teachers.
We welcome comissions for mosaic projects of all sizes and also offer ongoing classes in various mosaic styles and applications.
